A Robotic Arm and an Eye-Tracking Software Combine Perfectly To Give You an Extra Limb

Scientists at the Imperial College London have introduced a robotic arm that uses an eye-tracking software, giving anyone an extra arm to work. They have tested it by painting a picture by directing the robotic arm with the blink of an eye, while the person enjoys their breakfast. The technology is in a very premature phase and future enhancements are bound to make it more intuitive so that anyone can use it and focus on achieving their flair on the robotic arm rather than having to spend time grasping the basics.

The team of scientists at Imperial College, London is looking for partners who can help them commercialize this technology so that it can be used for a greater benefit. The robotic arm can be brought to use in a lot of ways. Empowering people without a limb or those who may have lost the use of their limbs because of paralysis is one of the many benefits of the technology. While restoration of the body through the robotic arm is a great step, we should also consider the augmentation of the body by using it as an extra limb.

The technology is certain to be welcomed by anyone who is a part of the robotics industry. With a basic eye-tracking feature powering a robotic arm to follow the blinks of a person’s eye is undoubtedly a great step towards the advancement of technology to help those who have difficulty controlling their limbs. However, the idea of an extra pair of limbs may or may not be deemed fit by many others in the society.
