How to factory reset PS4

Sony PS4 is one of the most popular gaming consoles, and if it isn’t working right it can be quite frustrating. But a bug or two from time to time is nothing strange and it happens on any device. If you notice some errors during your gameplay and it becomes super annoying to the extent that you can’t play your favorite games without being interrupted, perhaps it is time to factory reset the console.

Another case where factory reset is required is when you want to send your console. So here, we are going to share a quick and easy to follow guide on how to factory reset PS4.

Steps to factory reset PS4

If you want to factory reset your PS4 because it is not working right or you want to give it to someone or sell it, don’t worry, it is not a complicated task and you will do it in a few minutes. Here is how.

Before you start with the factory reset, it is important to deactivate the console as your primary unit. Do this to avoid any possible issues with reloading data or accessing online content. To deactivate it:

  • Go to the Settings menu and select PlayStation Network/Account Management
  • Now select Activate as your Primary PS4
  • Finally, select Deactivate.

To factory reset your PS4, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the Settings menu
  • Find and go to the Initialization tab
  • Now select Initialize PS4
  • Once the next page shows up, select the option “Full”.

Once you do this, your console will start to wipe everything off and will go back to factory defaults. Keep in mind that the whole process can last for a while, sometimes more than an hour.
