Sometime in June 2019, @SamsungSupport (Samsung Support USA), in a tweet directed to QLED TV owners highlighted the need for scanning the Wi-Fi connected devices to prevent malicious attacks.
Attached to the tweet was a video showing the steps of how to scan for viruses on TV. However, the company that saw the tweet as a panic trigger among its users and promptly pulled it down. But, the tweet had already been given thousands of impressions and the video over 10,000 views.

Scanning for viruses is part of maintaining the life of your device. The more your scan a device, the more likely you are to identify problems before they affect it.
For example, when your phone takes longer to load, it may have been affected months ago with a virus. If scanning had been regularly done, the infection would have been diagnosed early.

- Make sure your TV is on. On your remote control, navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu. The display will be in two-parts – the left side showing the tabs and the right side showing the specific functions.
- Navigate to ‘General’ which is just below ‘Broadcasting’. Once you press on ‘General’, the right, greater side of the screen will be activated.
- As the ‘General’ tab is active, go to ‘System Manager’ which is right below ‘Network’.
- Under the ‘System Manager’ screen, go down to ‘Smart Security’. Select it and then press ‘Scan’.
- The scan will start automatically with the following labels, ‘Scanning the System’ and the ‘Virus-infected Files: 0’ If any, the count for the virus-infected files will show.
These steps may differ a little depending on the brand of Samsung TV you are using.
Scanning Frequency?
You should be doing it every couple of weeks. For consistency, though, do it once a month. This will protect you from hackers who may tap into your TV’s microphone and listen in to your conversations – a thing that you surely do not want happening.
Or you can do this – scan the TV as frequently as you visit the web since the Internet stems from numerous malware.

Viruses on computers are bigger risks than when they are on TVs, so there is no need to panic. But, there is a need for caution since you want your TV to operate without any interference, right?
