Microsoft wants new PCs to ship with pre-installed Windows 10 instead of Windows 7 and 8.1 and gives a deadline to OEMs

Microsoft wants all new PCs to be sold with pre-installed Windows 10 and gives OEMs a deadline.

PC makers will have to install Windows 10 on new PCs next year. OEMs such as HP, Dell, Lenovo and others will have to stop shipping machines with pre-installed Windows 7 and 8.1 from October 31st 2016. They will only install Windows 10 on new PCs.

Usually, Microsoft sets the end-of-sales date for previous version of Windows two years after the new one is launched and that’s the company’s policy. But, that was not always the case, and Windows 7 was an exception. The sales of PCs with pre-installed Windows 7 continued two years after Windows 8 was launched. We all know that Windows 7 is far more popular than Windows 8.

When it comes to Windows 10, it is clear the company is pretty confident, which is why they gave this deadline to PC makers and all of them will be able to install only the latest version of Windows on new machines.
