When smartphone manufacturing companies saw the mercurial rise and the growing popularity of gaming laptops, an idea occurred to them. They thought if laptops could be specifically designed for gamers, why can’t phones? A large number of people spend hours playing games on their smartphones. Sometimes, this excessive usage also ends up affecting the phones’ shelf-lives. Manufacturing phones that would have the kind of specifications and features that would support extensive, high-end games was definitely a good idea.
While many smartphone manufacturing companies started developing and releasing gaming phones, the ROG Phone developed and distributed by the hardware and electronics company Asus turned out to be a game-changer in this space. The ASUS ROG Phone 3, in particular, was a model that was received very well by the consumers. The soon-to-be-launched ASUS ROG Phone 5 is expected to be an upgraded version of the ASUS ROG Phone 3 and appeals to users who want the best possible gaming experience on their phone.
While one has to wait for a while for the device to be out, a couple of leaked images and videos give us a fair idea of what one should expect out of it. The two areas, in particular, which the leaked material gives a good glimpse of are the device’s camera setup and the structural design.
A brief hands-on video, which first surfaced on the Weibo website, informs one about an important aspect of the next-generation phone. It reveals that the gaming phone will feature a secondary display on the panel present on the rear end of the phone.
The panel could be utilized for getting notifications about incoming calls and messages or projecting a high-end animation video during the gaming process. When you look closely, you will realize that the animation that one can see on the second display resembles the Anime Matrix screen that was launched by ASUS along with the ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop last year.
The video also introduces the viewers to the triple camera setup that one had a glimpse of in the live image leak that happened a couple of days ago. The design is quite similar to the last-generation model. Perhaps, the positive response to the design of the last released model compelled ASUS to retain it. The phone is expected to be as heavy and sturdy as one expects an ideal gaming phone to be.
Till now, we are aware of the fact that the ASUS ROG Phone 5 will support 65W fast charging. There will also be strong 5G connectivity support. Most people were expecting the phone to support 5G connectivity as it would run on the very powerful Snapdragon 888 SoC.
The processor has a 5G modem integrated inside it. The inclusion of the 65W fast charging did come as a bit of surprise as, during the launch of the ROG Phone 3, ASUS had stated that adhering to ‘fast charging’ processes will lead to a reduction in the battery life of your phone.
