This year in January, Xiaomi announced the arrival of a complete wireless charging technology which was branded as Mi Air Charge Technology. Usually, when a company makes an official announcement about introducing new technology, rival companies quickly start thinking of ways to either replicate the same technology or come up with a similar technology that would help it get a competitive edge in the market. Rival companies also make an effort to adopt the already discovered technology and polish it further.
Perhaps, that explains Oppo deciding to adopt Wireless Air Charging technology as well. Apart from exploring this relatively new technology, Oppo has also given official confirmation about a probable partnership with chipmakers and automakers. With the help of a demo video, Oppo gave a demonstration of the mechanisms of the Wireless Air Charge Technology. The device that was used in the demo video happened to be the OPPO X 2021 rollable smartphone. Just like the technology developed by Xiaomi, this particular technology by Oppo also supports complete wireless charging. The phone will continue to be charged even if you position it a few centimeters above the charging mat.
Oppo stated that that 7.5W of charging power is what the Wireless Air Charging technology can go up to. The company has also specified that an individual can place the phone 10 centimeters away from the mat and the phone will still continue to be charged. While the technology developed by Xiaomi enables a device to transmit millimeter waves inside a room with the help of a tower, the tech that Oppo is developing is expected to have a shorter range. Oppo has clarified that it will be opting for magnetic resonance as a fix for issues related to wireless charging.
Another major announcement by Oppo came in the form of a partnership with chipmakers and automakers across the globe with an aim to broaden the horizons of the VOOC Flash charging technology space. The project will be titled ‘The Flash Initiative’ and under it, organizations will get the license to integrate the Oppo charging technology on their devices.
Oppo has partnered up with global companies like NXP Semiconductors, Anker, and Volkswagen which are prominent names in the automobile space. Oppo will be providing these companies technical designs to work with. These designs will be implemented on the products manufactured by the partner companies.
