WhatsApp Will Not Support Blackberry And Other Old Platforms After This Year

WhatsApp plans to stop their support for Blackberry and the other old platforms, such as Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2, and Windows 7.1 by the end of this year. They announced it through their official blog. They took this decision to focus on a better WhatsApp development instead of dealing with the old platforms.

WhatsApp is a multiplatform application and service, and it’s an achievement for them to be adopted by a lot of users. When this messenger app was launched 7 years ago, mobile device platforms have not been dominated by Android and iOS yet. By the time, the more secure and sophisticated platforms were coming around. Moreover, some encryption technologies cannot be applied to the old mobile platforms.

The surprising thing is that they also ended their support toward Blackberry 10 OS, which is new. Maybe WhatsApp takes this decision because of the very low Blackberry market share, not because it’s an old platform.

WhatsApp is actively updated on iOS, Android, and Windows 8.1 platform because these platforms are developing continuously. If you are still using a smartphone with the old platform, and you plan to use this app next year, it’s time to upgrade your device to the new platform.
